Jogja Tour 3 Days 2 Nights

Complete itinerary for a perfect Yogyakarta vacation

If you ask any of our drivers how many days you really need in Jogja, almost all of them will say three days, two nights. That is the sweet spot. You get a full day for the ancient temples, another for Merapi and nature, and a relaxed final day for beaches and souvenirs before heading home. No rushing between sites, no wasted downtime.

Most of our guests do temples and culture on day one — Prambanan in the afternoon light, then Ratu Boko right at golden hour for one of Java's best sunsets. Day two starts early with Borobudur at sunrise (trust us, the difference between a 6 AM and 11 AM visit is night and day), followed by a jeep ride through Merapi's lava fields. Day three is the wind-down: south coast beaches, the Instagram-famous Mangunan Pine Forest, then oleh-oleh shopping before the airport.

Budget-wise, an Avanza for all three days runs about IDR 750,000 total. Split four ways, that is under IDR 190,000 per person for three full days of transport. Add roughly IDR 100-200k for entrance fees across all sites, and you are looking at a very affordable trip — especially when meals at local warungs start at IDR 15,000.

Recommended Itinerary

1

Day 1: Temples & Culture

Pickup from airport or hotel around 10 AM — enough time to rest if you took an early flight. Head straight to Prambanan (about 40 minutes from the city), explore for 2-3 hours. Continue to Ratu Boko around 4 PM — this is the perfect timing for sunset with a spectacular view toward Prambanan. Evening hotel check-in, then walk to Malioboro for gudeg and some early shopping.

2

Day 2: Borobudur & Merapi

Depart at 4:30 AM — it has to be this early to reach Borobudur before sunrise. The dawn here is in a league of its own: mist weaving between the stupas is something photos cannot fully capture. Finish around 9 AM, then stop at Mendut Temple (10 minutes from Borobudur, often skipped but its Buddha statue is magnificent). Lunch at a warung near Muntilan. Afternoon, take the Merapi Lava Tour by jeep — thrilling and educational, about 1.5 hours. Relax in Kaliurang in the late afternoon, maybe grab some bakmi Jawa.

3

Day 3: Beaches & Shopping

A more relaxed morning, leave around 8 AM. Indrayanti Beach if you want white sand and seaside cafes, or Parangtritis for the classic Jogja beach vibe. From the coast, stop at Mangunan Pine Forest — great photo spots and cool mountain air. Head back to the city around 2 PM with time for souvenir shopping at Mirota Batik or the famous Bakpia Pathok 25. Drop-off at the airport or train station in the afternoon.

Important Tips

Hotels in Prawirotaman are quieter and artsy, Malioboro is livelier but more central. For 3 days, Prawirotaman is usually more comfortable because parking is easier.

Schedule Borobudur sunrise on day 2, not day 1. You need rest after traveling, and waking up at 4 AM on your first day is brutal.

Bring a light jacket for Borobudur sunrise and Kaliurang — temperatures can drop to 18-20°C in the morning. Afternoons at the beach hit 34°C, so sunscreen is essential too.

If budget is tight, skip Ratu Boko entrance (IDR 40k ticket) and enjoy sunset from outside the temple grounds — the view from warungs across the road is still great.
