Jogja One Day Tour

Perfect day trip to explore Yogyakarta

We had a guest from Surabaya who was transiting through Jogja for just one day before continuing to Bali — originally they only wanted to see Borobudur. When they came back they said, "I had no idea one day could fit this much." And that is true: with the right route and an early start, a single full day in Jogja can be surprisingly rich.

The secret is picking one theme and sticking to it. Want temples? Focus on Borobudur in the morning and Prambanan in the afternoon — both are UNESCO World Heritage sites, and they are only an hour apart. Prefer nature? Merapi Lava Tour by jeep in the morning, then lunch in Kaliurang. City culture? Kraton, Taman Sari water palace, then Malioboro until evening. The classic mistake is mixing temples and beaches in one day — they are 2+ hours apart and you spend half the day in the car.

Standard duration is 12 hours (say 7 AM to 7 PM). With an Avanza split four ways, transport is just IDR 62,500 per person for the entire day. Our drivers know every route and the best timing for each destination — they know when Borobudur is quiet, which warung near Prambanan has the best food, and shortcuts that do not show up on Google Maps.

Important Tips

Do not try to combine Borobudur and the south coast beaches in 1 day. It is 3 hours round trip and you will spend half the day driving. Borobudur + Prambanan is already a perfect full day.

If arriving at YIA Airport (Kulon Progo), ask the driver to go straight to Borobudur — it is the same direction and only 40 minutes. Do not backtrack to the city first, that wastes an hour.

For lunch, skip the tourist-trap restaurants near the temples that charge double. Ask your driver to take you to a local warung 5 minutes away — the food is better and prices are normal.
