Family Holiday Package in Jogja

Kid-friendly destinations and comfortable family vehicles

Last week we had a family from Bekasi — parents, two elementary-school kids, and grandma. They said they wanted something not too tiring but still fun for the children. That is exactly the profile of most of our family guests. Jogja has just the right pace for a family holiday: destinations are not too far apart, there are plenty of educational spots that keep kids engaged, and the food works for all ages.

For families with young children, we usually recommend a relaxed rhythm — two to three destinations per day max, with a midday rest at the hotel or a stop at a mall (Hartono Mall has a nice playground). Day one in the city: Taman Pintar for the kids to do hands-on science experiments, then the Kraton and Taman Sari which do not require too much walking. Evening at Alun-Alun Kidul, where kids can ride decorated becak pedicabs or try masangin — walking blindfolded between two giant banyan trees. They absolutely love it.

For vehicles, families with kids usually need extra space for strollers, bags, and the never-ending supply of snacks. The Innova is the most popular choice — the cabin is roomy and the trunk fits a lot. Our drivers are used to the family rhythm: patient waiting, AC always on, and no speeding.

Recommended Itinerary

1

Day 1: Educational Tour

Depart at 9 AM (no need to rush, let the kids have breakfast first). Taman Pintar opens at 8:30 — kids can easily spend 2-3 hours here, and there is a toddler zone too. Lunch at noon, then walk to the nearby Kraton and Taman Sari. Afternoon rest at the hotel, then head to Alun-Alun Kidul in the evening — ride decorated becak pedicabs, try the masangin challenge, and snack on wedang ronde by the square.

2

Day 2: Temples & Nature

Leave at 7:30 AM for Borobudur — no need for sunrise with kids, just arrive before it gets hot. Explore for about 2 hours; kids over 5 can usually handle the climb. Midday, head to Gembira Loka Zoo — there are mini rides and feeding areas that kids love. Late afternoon, go to HeHa Sky View for family photos with the Jogja city skyline backdrop.

3

Day 3: Beach & Shopping

Morning to Parangtritis Beach — bring a change of clothes because kids will inevitably play in the sand and waves. Ride a horse cart or ATV along the shore, about IDR 30-50k. Midday, stop at Mangunan Pine Forest (15 minutes from the beach), cool air and great photo spots. Head back to the city for souvenir shopping — kids usually enjoy picking out t-shirts and keychains at Malioboro.

Important Tips

One common mistake: packing the schedule too tight. Kids need downtime. Insert a 1-2 hour midday rest at the hotel — they (and you) will be much happier in the afternoon.

Keep extra plastic bags in the car — for sandy clothes from the beach, snack wrappers, and just in case the kids get carsick on the winding road to Borobudur.

If you have toddlers, skip Borobudur — the stairs are steep and not stroller-friendly. Replace it with Gembira Loka Zoo or Sindu Kusuma Edupark which are safer for little ones.

Dinner around Alun-Alun Kidul — there are many lesehan warungs (floor-seating eateries) that kids enjoy because they can sit on mats, and prices are just IDR 15-25k per dish.
