Car Rental Jogja to Prambanan

Prambanan is just 17 km from downtown Jogja — about 30-35 minutes along Jl. Raya Solo. It is the easiest major temple to reach from the city, and there is no additional fee since it falls within city limits. The most important tip for Prambanan: visit in the afternoon, not the morning. Midday is brutally hot since the temple grounds are open with almost no shade. Arriving around 3-4 PM means cooler temperatures, and you get the golden hour lighting that makes Prambanan photographs truly stunning. If you want to continue to Ratu Boko Palace for sunset (just 3 km uphill from Prambanan, about 10 minutes), it is a perfect combination.

Around Prambanan you will also find Sewu Temple (a 15-minute walk from the main compound), Plaosan Temple (5-minute drive east), and Kalasan Temple (right on the main highway). If you visit during dry season (May-October), do not miss the Ramayana Ballet at night on the open-air stage with Prambanan as the backdrop — starts at 7:30 PM, tickets booked separately.
