The route from Jogja to Borobudur is straightforward: head north out of the city on Jl. Magelang, continue straight for about 42 km, and you arrive at the largest Buddhist temple in the world. The drive takes 60-75 minutes, depending on when you leave. If you depart before 6 AM (for the sunrise tour leaving at 3:30 AM), the road is empty and you can arrive in about 50 minutes.

Important Tips
Sunrise tour departs at 3:30 AM from your hotel. Arrive at Borobudur around 4:30, climb the temple in the dark, and catch sunrise around 5:30-6:00 AM. Book at least a day ahead so the driver can be ready at dawn.
Mendut and Pawon Temples are on the approach road to Borobudur — stop on the way there, not on the way back, so you avoid backtracking.
Foreign tourist tickets are very expensive (check latest prices on the official Borobudur website). Indonesian citizens pay much less. Have cash ready for tickets — card machines often malfunction.
Official parking is IDR 10,000 for cars. The driver waits at the parking area — no need to rush, daily rental is 12 hours so you have plenty of time.
