Car Rental Fuel Policy

So there are no fuel cost surprises mid-trip

Chauffeur Rental: Fuel Is Included

For car rental with driver at Adhyasatya, fuel is included in the price during 12 hours of operation within the Jogja area and surroundings. This means: no need to fill up, no extra payment, and no worrying about mileage. The driver handles everything.

What Counts as the Jogja Area

The "Jogja area" is actually quite broad and covers almost all major tourist destinations within the city. All of Yogyakarta City (Malioboro, Keraton, Taman Sari, Prawirotaman), Prambanan and Ratu Boko, nearby south coast beaches like Parangtritis and Depok Beach, Kaliurang and Merapi base camp, and the Bantul area including Mangunan and Imogiri — all of these fall within the inclusive fuel zone. So for a standard city tour or a 1-day route focused on Jogja, you pay zero extra for fuel.

Out of City: Extra Fuel Charges Apply

For destinations further afield, there is a proportional fuel surcharge based on distance. This is not a hidden cost — we always communicate it at the time of booking. The ranges are:

  • Borobudur/Magelang (40 km): + IDR 50,000 — about 1-1.5 hour drive via Jl. Magelang
  • Gunungkidul Beaches (Indrayanti, Timang, Siung — 50-65 km): + IDR 25,000 — via Jl. Wonosari, the hilly terrain increases fuel consumption
  • Solo (65 km): + IDR 100,000 — you can take the Jogja-Solo toll road which is now operational, or the regular route via Klaten
  • Dieng (120 km): + IDR 150,000 — a 3-4 hour drive via Magelang then climbing to the highland plateau
  • Semarang (130 km): + IDR 200,000 — fastest via Solo toll then Semarang, or the Magelang route for better scenery

*Charges may change with fuel price fluctuations. Currently Pertalite is at IDR 10,000/liter.

Self-Drive: Fuel Is Your Responsibility

For self-drive rental, the rule is straightforward: the car is handed over with a full tank and should be returned with a full tank. Fill up at any Pertamina gas station — they are everywhere in Jogja, roughly every 3-5 km on main roads. Use Pertalite (IDR 10,000/liter) for city cars and Avanza, or Pertamax (IDR 12,950/liter) for better performance especially in an Innova. Shell stations exist on some major roads like the Ring Road and Jl. Solo, but Pertamina stations are more widely distributed.

Fuel-Saving Tips

If renting self-drive, choose a Calya or Avanza with fuel consumption of 10-12 km/liter — for a full day of city touring you only need about 5-8 liters, or IDR 50,000-80,000. Group destinations in the same direction to avoid backtracking. Avoid idling too long with the AC on — if you stop somewhere for a while, turn off the engine. And for out-of-city trips via Jl. Magelang or Jl. Wonosari, fill up the tank before departure as gas stations are sparser in the mountain areas.
