Once you pass Jl. Kaliurang KM 15 heading uphill, the change is dramatic — the air suddenly turns cool, the road starts climbing and curving, and the scenery shifts from urban sprawl to pine forests and salak fruit plantations. Kaliurang sits at around 900 meters above sea level on the slopes of Mount Merapi, 25 km from downtown Jogja.

There is an additional IDR 25,000 fee for Kaliurang pickup due to the distance and terrain. If you are staying in Kaliurang and want to continue to Borobudur, there is a stunning northern route via Selo-Boyolali-Magelang (about 2 hours). Or head back down to the city first and take Jl. Magelang, which is faster but less scenic. Temperatures in Kaliurang range from 15-22 degrees Celsius, so bring a jacket especially for morning or evening visits.
