Sewu Temple
Magnificent Buddhist Temple in the Prambanan Complex
Here is a secret too good not to share: after buying a Prambanan ticket, walk 15 minutes north and you will find Sewu Temple — "thousand temples" — nearly empty of visitors. Yet this is the second largest Buddhist temple in Indonesia after Borobudur!
The rows of hundreds of small temples surrounding the main one create an extraordinary visual effect, especially in morning light. And since it is included in the Prambanan ticket, you pay nothing extra. Most tourists are exhausted after Prambanan and head straight home — meanwhile Sewu is just 800 meters ahead.
