Pawon Temple
Mysterious Small Temple Between Borobudur and Mendut
Three temples in a straight line: Mendut, Pawon, Borobudur — and the one in the middle is arguably the most mysterious. Small, but its reliefs are full of symbols still debated by archaeologists. Some say it was a treasure vault, others a royal cremation site. What is certain: the carving details will make you stop and look closely.
Stopping here takes just 10 minutes on the Borobudur-Mendut route. Tickets IDR 5,000, and usually quiet. A small temple but full of stories.
