Mendut Temple
Java's Largest and Most Beautiful Seated Buddha Statue
Walk into Mendut Temple and your eyes are immediately drawn to one thing: a 3-meter seated Buddha statue with an expression so serene it makes you feel at peace. Many art historians call it one of the most beautiful Buddha statues in all of Southeast Asia — and after seeing it in person, it is hard to disagree.
Only 3 km from Borobudur, yet often skipped because tourists are too focused on Borobudur. During Vesak in May, the walking procession from Mendut to Borobudur is one of the most spectacular ceremonies in Java.
