Taman Sari Water Palace

Historic Water Palace — Jogja's Iconic Photo Spot

Most of our guests come to Taman Sari for photos at the bathing pools — and yes, they are beautiful. But what makes this place truly special is underground: the underground mosque (Sumur Gumuling) with its circular architecture that makes you feel like you have stepped into an Indiana Jones film. Truly, it is one of the most unique buildings in all of Jogja.

Built in 1765, this former royal garden blends Javanese and Portuguese architecture. It served many purposes: bathing pools for the Sultan's consorts, meditation spaces, and reportedly even a secret tunnel to the South Sea (unproven, but a great story). The surrounding area is also worth exploring — narrow village alleys full of art murals and small batik galleries that are genuine hidden gems.

After finishing, wander the surrounding village — there are small batik galleries and local coffee shops priced far cheaper than Malioboro cafes
