Parangtritis Beach

Jogja's Legendary Beach — Sunset & Adventure

There is one unwritten rule at Parangtritis Beach: do not wear green clothing. Why? Because legend says Nyi Roro Kidul — the Queen of the South Sea — favors green, and those who wear it might be "invited" to her underwater kingdom. Myth? Perhaps. But Jogja locals genuinely respect this, and we suggest you do too.

Jogja's most famous beach is only 27 km south — just 45 minutes away. It is not a swimming beach (the waves are fierce and undercurrents dangerous), but for sunsets, ATV rides along the shore (IDR 50,000-100,000/15 minutes), or horse carriage rides by the waves, Parangtritis has no equal. The strong, fresh south coast wind is exactly what you need after a full day walking in the hot city.
