Vredeburg Fort
Independence History Museum in Dutch Colonial Fort
From outside, Vredeburg Fort looks like a European building out of place in central Jogja. Inside, its dioramas tell the story of Indonesia's independence struggle with spine-tingling detail — from VOC colonial rule to the March 1, 1949 general attack in Jogja.
Located right at the southern end of Malioboro, facing Gedung Agung (presidential palace). Tickets only IDR 10,000. Allow 1-1.5 hours to properly enjoy all dioramas. The fort courtyard is also great for photos — the colonial architecture is well-maintained.
